Brett R. Harrison, Urbana, taught himself the detail-oriented tasks of a court reporter and has achieved the highest honors in the state. Now he and Susan Faulkner, Buffalo, are Republican candidates for the Dallas County Circuit Clerk in the Aug. 7 primary. The winner of the GOP primary will be sworn in as circuit clerk in January of 2019 because there is no opponent in the November general election. Susan Potter, the current circuit clerk, is not a candidate for re-election. Harrison trained himself to be a court reporter by using 1950s equipment to record nightly news, he said, and later earned certification.
